The scrap silver value calculator is a tool created by the team at the Australian Coin Collecting Blog. We've been writing the blog for several years primarily focussing on coin collecting and during this time developed some silver bullion coin calculators for various countries including the USA, Great Britain, and Australia. We'd been wanting to do a scrap silver calculator for a while but didn't think it really fit in with the nature of the blog so we decided to spin the idea off to a new site. Which you're looking at now.
The calculator is coded primarily in javascript using the Prototype library. The silver prices and exchange rates are updated hourly with a cron'd PHP script and there's a little bit of server side scripting in the calculator page too.
